Deborah Parks has spent 30 years working with many of Canada’s best filmmakers, on documentaries that have won many awards and screened at many international film festivals. She began as a Producer and Cinematographer in 1986 travelling to the Sahara desert with Shelley Saywell to make their first film ‘Shahira’. Together they have made more than 18 films over the last 25 years. “Low Down Tracks” screened at Hot Docs 2015 taking 2nd place in the “Top 10 Audience Award”. In 2011 “In The Name of The Family” won ‘Best Canadian Feature’ at Hot Docs and had its international premiere at IDFA in 2011. For the last 16 years, Deborah has also worked with John Kastner, 4 time Emmy Award winning Director/Writer on 9 long format films, and most recently co- produced “Out of Sight, Out of Mind”, (Best Canadian Feature Doc, Hot Docs 2014) and “Life With Murder” (Hot Docs, 2011, International Emmy Award). As a cinematographer she was the first woman to win the Canadian Society of Cinematographer’s award for ‘Best Photography’ in a documentary film for “Shahira”.
